Accelerant by Ronie Kendig | Book Review

January 28, 2019 by Jamie 2 Comments

When this book ended, it was one of those moments where you weren’t prepared to have it all be finished, so it was a “wait….what????” The thing with series, they like a cliffhanger. For us readers though….that wait is just cruel. Ha! But when a reader can’t wait, that is a sign of a good book!

He’ll destroy the world. But first he has to save it.

The Nine Kingdoms bleed. Leaderless, ravaged, the land awaits deliverance from Poired Dyrth’s devastating campaign. But what if one blight can only be cleansed by another?

The promised Fierian is known by many names. Judge. Destroyer. Scourge. And now one other: Haegan, Prince of Seultrie. Once a cripple, now a gifted Accelerant, Haegan can no longer run from the truth. But neither can he be reconciled to it. He knows only one thing for certain: as the only able-bodied heir to the Fire Throne, he must return to the Nine and fight for his people.

But there are insidious forces at work. When reality itself falls into question, Haegan struggles to know where to fight, whom to trust. Caught between duty to his country and duty to the world, Haegan must see clearly enough to choose the right path to save the world.

In her classic style, and as with Embers, Ronie, takes readers back into her fantastical world with plenty of the unexpected, twists, turns, battles and even some romance. There’s plenty of action to keep the pages turning and I am so ready for the conclusion!

The battles and adventures continue with @roniekendig’s Accelerant!

3 Reasons to Read Fantasy Novels

January 26, 2019 by Jamie 2 Comments

This was a fun post for me to write! I get to be a part of Ronie’s blog tour for her latest release, Embers (you can check out my review here) and I get to talk about one of my favorite genres ever! I thought I would include a few reasons why this genre is amazing and why you should read it.

This is based on completely scientific research and totally unbiased. Totally.

1. It’s fun! This is the a given. There’s nothing quite like diving into a created world and going on an adventure. You never know who or what you’ll meet and my imagination appreciates every single word read. I love that anything goes!

2. We daily live in the real world (talk about a revelation right?!), so switching it up is just what we need sometimes. Of course I love books about reality, but sometimes the real world is a bowl full of “this place is lame,” so escaping to a world of elves, people of fire, dwarves, Hobbits, wizards and any other creature is perfect. If you’ve become lost in the world of Narnia, Hogwarts, or Middle Earth, you know that amazing feeling I’m talking about.

3. The Battle of Good vs. Evil. I think this might be my favorite reason to read fantasy. For me, the Battle comes to life more than any other genre. That’s one of the reasons Dracula remains one of my all-time favorite books. Seeing evil manifested reminds me of the battle and enemies we face (although we already won!). I was having this discussion recently and if we could see them for what they are, would realize just who we’re fighting. That might seem like a strange reason, but these books always make me ready to join the fight!

So fantasy fans, what are some of your favorite reasons to read fantasy novels? And if you haven’t, be sure to grab a copy of Ronie’s latest, Embers!

Embers by Ronie Kendig | Book Review

January 22, 2019 by Jamie 2 Comments

I’m so excited for Ronie with this release! For those of you familiar with Ronie’s previous books, you know she’s known for her action packed military novels. Her first release in the Abiassa’s Fire Series though? Fantasy! So excited! As y’all know, I am a bit of a “fan” of this genre. So without further ado…

HE’S COMING FOR THEM. AND THE KINGDOM.

Haegan and Kaelyria Celahar are royal heirs of the Nine Kingdoms, but Haegan is physically crippled. What chance does he have against Poired Dyrth, the greatest enemy the kingdom has ever faced, who wields fire with a power none can match?

Their only hope is forbidden: Kaelyria must transfer her fire-harnessing abilities to Haegan. When she does it comes with a terrible price: Haegan’s disability is healed, but only by being transferred to Kaelyria. This act unleashes their father-king’s wrath.

Haegan must flee the kingdom alone with two impossible tasks: Find a cure for Kaelyria and stop the coming war with the omnipotent Poired Dyrth.

One of the things guaranteed with a novel written by Ronie? Plenty of non stop action. And Embers has just that. With a new and very imaginative world, full of those who understand given powers and those who don’t, Ronie takes readers on a daring adventure and introduces you to a colorful cast of characters – with plenty of surprises in between.

The first release of @roniekendig new series is here! Fantasy fans, be sure to check it out!

I think Ronie did a great job kicking off this series and keeping the reader’s’ attention. I know the last section of the book kept me up way past my bedtime. But hey, it happens right?

One more final note? I absolutely love the cover.

What’s one of your favorite fantasy novels?

Falcon by Ronie Kendig | Book Review

December 4, 2018 by Jamie 14 Comments

“The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.” Douglas MacArthur

This quote Ronie choose fits so perfectly with this story. With the conclusion of a fabulous action-packed series, the final, Falcon, brings us deeper into our favorite soldiers’ lives as well as finishing off The Quiet Professionals series in classic Kendig fashion.

Special Forces operator Salvatore “Falcon” Russo vowed to never again speak to or trust Lieutenant Cassandra Walker after a tragedy four years ago. But as Raptor closes in on the cyber terrorists responsible for killing two of their own, Sal must put his life—and the lives of his teammates—in her hands. Despite his anger, Cassie is ill-prepared for his resistance and the fallout when she must protect the one asset who can end the attacks. As allies become enemies and hostiles become unlikely partners, Raptor fights for its very existence.

After I got into the groove of the book, I was hooked. It kicked off with a bang and truly did not stop until the final page. There was also so much more than just military action. Kendig also dealt with other issues, ones important to share about (things like depression, PTSD) in a fitting manner. What many of these men went through are very much real life and I always appreciate that about Ronie’s novels.

If you enjoy fast paced military fiction, be sure to grab @roniekendig’s latest!

Have I mentioned this is action-packed? There were all kinds of twists and turns and a couple of major shockers! Not those type that are just thrown in, but ones that make the storyline even stronger. I definitely kept guessing on a couple of characters whether I could trust them or not. I also really liked enjoyed the multiple storylines. While Falcon was the focus, there were a few other story lines and by the end, everything came together in such an interesting way. It was fabulous!

I have to say this was my favorite of the three. If you’re a fan military action, you have to meet the boys of Raptor 6!

Are you a fan of military fiction?
