The Tide and Tempest | Elizabeth Ludwig

December 7, 2018 by Jamie 11 Comments

I’ve been so excited to dive into this one! I’ve come to enjoy this series so much! With each new book in the series, Edge of Freedom, you get to connect with old friends again. That’s definitely how I felt starting The Tide and Tempest by Elizabeth Ludwig.

Two years ago, her fiance perished during their voyage to America. Now she discovers it may have been murder…

Dreaming of a better life, Tillie McGrath leaves Ireland behind and, with her beloved fiance by her side, sets sail for America. But when illness robs her of the man she holds dear, she’s left alone with only a handful of tattered memories. While forging on proves difficult, Tillie soon finds some new friends at her New York boardinghouse, and begins pursuing a new dream–to open a home for orphaned children.

Despite two years passing, Captain Keondric Morgan has never forgotten the lass who left his ship so heartbroken. When a crewman’s deathbed confession reveals her fiance’s demise was the result of murder, the captain knows he must try to contact her. But his attention draws the notice of others as well–dangerous men who believe Tillie has in her possession something that could expose their crimes. And to their way of thinking, the best way to prevent such an outcome is to seize the evidence and then hand Tillie the same fate as her naïve fiance.

This series has been so good and the third book sealed the deal. While each book has been great, I do believe the series got better and better with each book (it helps that you love all the characters a ton!). I loved how all the characters were connected, how they made appearances in each book and how it all turned out! Plus there’s plenty of suspense to keep you turning the pages.

Tillie is a strong woman you could be friends with and you can’t help but fall for Captain Morgan…I’m telling ya! Plus his brother Cass? Another keeper! As I finished the last few pages, it felt like putting the last few pieces of the three book puzzle together. You know, where you feel a sense of accomplishment and when you take a step back to see the final complete picture, you think “man that came together rather nicely!”

Each story can stand alone, but after enjoying this third novel, I definitely suggest reading them in order. I have a feeling you’ll enjoy them even more. If you’re looking for some Irish awesomeness, mystery, suspense and a fun read, I definitely recommend this one!

So have you read any in the series? What’s your favorite??

No Safe Harbor | Elizabeth Ludwig

My first two thoughts about this novel after completion:
1. Cara will you please listen!
2. There are some bitter Bettys up in late 1800s NYC. I think a few folks needed some high fives and hugs.

In some cases, this would make for a frustrating novel, but in the case of No Safe Harbor by Elizabeth Ludwig, it worked for an entertaining and suspenseful read.

Lured by a handful of scribbled words across a faded letter, Cara Hamilton sets off from 1896 Ireland on a quest to find the brother she’d thought dead. Her search lands her in America, amidst a houseful of strangers and one man who claims to be a friend–Rourke Walsh.

Despite her brother’s warning, Cara decides to trust Rourke and reveals the truth about her purpose in America. But he is not who he claims to be, and as rumors begin to circulate about an underground group of dangerous revolutionaries, Cara’s desperation grows. Her questions lead her ever closer to her brother, but they also bring her closer to destruction as Rourke’s true intentions come to light.

There were characters you weren’t sure if you could trust, definite villains, all the while wondering about her brother. I thought Ludwig did a good job drawing you into the story, trying to figure out the web of mysteries, including an ending that leads right to the next book in the series. This was one of the kindle freebies I grabbed, which can often end in disaster, but this wasn’t one of those. And right now it’s on sale, so be sure to grab it here!

Have you read any of Ludwig’s books? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
