One of the exciting things I’ve seen in CBA in recent years, is the growth of books available for the YA market. There is such a need and I’m happy to support authors and books that teens will not only love, but will gain valuable lessons from. The second YA historical romance from Jody Hedlund is just that and follows one of the knights we meet in her first release.
In a reverse twist on the Robin Hood story, a young medieval maiden stands up for the rights of the mistreated, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. All the while, she fights against her cruel uncle who has taken over the land that is rightfully hers. Forced to live in the woods and hide with the poor people she’s grown to love, she works to save and protect them, but she never anticipates falling in love with the wealthy knight who represents all she’s come to despise.
Much like An Uncertain Choice, Jody provides readers with a sweet story of romance and adventure. Juliana is a strong character in her own right. I love that! Our young women often need to be reminded that they are able to accomplish and influence others on their own. The friendship and romance between her and Collin is refreshing and reminds the reader of what sacrifice looks like.
With hints of Robin Hood and plenty of action, this is another great addition to a YA reader’s library. I’m looking forward to the final one in the series! I also now want to go watch Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. One of my favs.
What was one of you favorite books as a teen?
(Thank you to Zondervan for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review)
