While my memory of Sleeping Beauty is a bit hazy (I pretty much only think of the Dragon and three little fairies from Disney’s cartoon), I still really enjoyed The Healer’s Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson. I liked coming across bits of the fairy tale and piecing it together with each page turned. Plus it makes me want to watch Sleeping Beauty again (Do I buy the DVD/Blu Ray combo pack every time Disney releases a cartoon from the infamous Vault? You bet I do! Well played Disney. Well played.)
Dickerson’s writing is engaging and leaves you wishing the story wasn’t done after turning the final page. Three times now she’s taken a famous, well-known story and re-told it in a way that helps you appreciate the original, but also embrace a different version. It’s what the French call skills.
Yep, I’m a huge fan of Dickerson and can’t wait for October and her next release!! Plus that gives you plenty of time to read all three :).
