If you are looking for a touch of Jane Austen, a bit of mystery and some good ol English scandal, then The Girl in the Gatehouse is one for you!
I have to admit, I was expecting much from this book, for no other reason than I hadn’t heard of the book, nor read anything by Julie Klassen. I was going in blind (and you just never know when you do that). Plus I had just finished a fantastic series, so I was still recovering from that book hangover and dreams of medieval Italy.
But this story grew on me rather quickly! The more I read, the more I got into it and couldn’t stop until I finished!
I felt like I was reading a Jane Austen novel (which is great for me since I heart all things written by Ms. Austen), from the way the story was told to picking up pieces of some of my favorite Austen novels and even Jane’s real life. There was plenty of intrigue to keep me reading and plenty variety of characters to keep me interested. Plus, like I said, it was a great story!
If you like Jane Austen, then be sure to add this to your list. She also has a new novel out that I hear has a Bronte vibe, so guess what’s getting added to my reading pile? Which, by the way is a pile that will never end. Unless I win a million dollars and I don’t have to work all day. 🙂
