It took me a while to admit, but after reviewing some of my favorite books, one thing is clear: I have a ridiculous obsession with the fantasy/made up world/so far from reality genre of fiction. Not to say I don’t love some good historical fiction, but when Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Percy Jackson and Eragon line my book shelf, there’s no denying the evidence. That and apparently “young adult” fiction works great for 29 year old adults as well.
When I came across Cinder (think Cinderella) by Marissa Meyer, a story set in the future complete with crazy lunar queens, androids and cyborgs, you can see why my interest was peaked. And who doesn’t love a story about a handsome prince and a girl who defeats evil? Never gets old.
I’ll keep this short with four points:
- The only thing I was upset about was that this is the first book in series and now I have to wait for the next one to be published. To this I say boo! I still remember the anguish of waiting for the final HP.
- One part totally caught me off guard and the person next to me at the airport probably thought I was loco for randomly saying “Wha???????” out loud to myself.
- This takes place in New Beijing and since I claim to be an honorary Asian, I really connected 😉
- If you love the classic fairy tales, you’ll enjoy seeing pieces of the fairy tale pop up throughout the book.
I think this will turn out to be a great series and definitely recommend! It’s a great read, quick, but entertaining also.
