“I remember being a kid and thinking ‘I’d love to go to heaven, but I hope I don’t die before I get rich and get married.’ Silly thoughts like that make it pretty clear that I had no idea what heaven is like. My childish perspective was opposite of Paul’s perspective. He says, ‘My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.’ (Philippians 1:23). Paul understood that it is far better to be with Jesus than to be here on earth.

I remember when I was in my late teens (and a young Christian) having conversations much like this with friends. Even asking those same questions – will heaven really be as great as we have things here? Can I please get married and have a family first? See the world before this happens?
I don’t think anything is horribly wrong with those desires or questions, but looking back I realize I didn’t fully grasp just how amazing eternity will be! I’m most definitely a work in progress, but it’s encouraging to know the Lord is continuing to change my heart with each passing day, week and year. While life on earth is a blessing, I can say without a doubt my heart desires much much more 🙂 I’d love to hear your thoughts as well!
