Welcome to another stop in the Falcon Blog Tour! I’m super excited to not only be on this tour to promote Ronie’s book, but I’m especially excited because I get to share a bit about Afghanistan – and if you know me, anytime I get to talk about other countries and cultures is a major bonus! Each of the books in The Quiet Professionals series takes place in this country, so let me introduce a bit to the beautiful Afghanistan.
Enjoy! Oh and don’t miss out on the two giveaways below (one copy of Falcon and the grand prize giveaway as well!)
Let’s start off with food, because I’m a fan of food. Afghan cuisine is incredibly diverse while adhering to their Islamic dietary laws. Kabuli Palaw (also called Qabili Palau) is the national dish of Afghanistan. It’s a dish of cooked rice, with raisins, carrots and meat. While it is usually made with lamb, it can also be made with chicken or beef. Here’s a recipe if you’re interested in checking it out! A popular drink is a yogurt based drink called Doogh. It’s a cold drink where mint is often added and enjoyed during the summer season. Both look rather tasty!
It’s also a beautiful country!
The fashion of Afghan women is also largely connected to their Muslim faith. While there are fully covered women in burqas, there is also the hijab, which is a head covering. Much of the fashion is full of bold and beautiful colors and textures!
Have you seen this world famous portrait from 1984? She was an Afghan girl, who was at the time a refugee in Pakistan. Still one of the most profound portraits I’ve ever seen.
Architecture and buildings in Afghanistan date back centuries and one of the most famous mosques in Afghanistan is Shrine of Hazrat Ali, which was built in the 15th century.
This has barely scratched the surface of Afghan culture and history, but I hope you enjoyed seeing just a bit of it!
