I love a good ol fashion mystery. Putting together the clues, interpreting actions of characters and trying to catch the mastermind behind the crimes – it’s all so fun and fascinating. Then toss in a twist and shocking end? Mind blown.
Two books into Julianna Deering’s Drew Farthering Mysteries series and I must say, Deering continues to make her name known in the mystery genre. Not only is it fabulous writing, but her mysteries and endings are never what I suspect. Guess I won’t be applying to the BAU any time soon.
Drew Farthering wanted nothing more than to end the summer of 1932 with the announcement of his engagement. Instead, he finds himself caught up in another mysterious case when the family solicitor is found murdered, an antique hatpin with a cryptic message, Advice to Jack, piercing his chest.
Evidence of secret meetings and a young girl’s tearful confession point to the victim’s double life, but what does the solicitor’s murder have to do with the murder of a physician on the local golf course? Nothing, it would seem–except for another puzzling note, affixed with a similar-looking bloodied hatpin.
Soon the police make an arrest in connection with the murders, but Drew isn’t at all certain they have the right suspect in custody. And why does his investigation seem to be drawing him closer and closer to home?
I love the time period of the books and the characters. Drew is as wonderful as ever and ever such the gentleman. They should make this a movie. I have plenty is casting options of Drew to choose from. Besides the trio, there’s a whole array of colorful new characters that keep you guessing and moving the novel along. I’m very much looking forward to the third installment later this year!
Plus I can’t say enough how much I love these covers. They fit the books and stories perfectly!
Have you encountered Drew Farthering and Co? How about your favorite mysteries? Which ones would you add?
