Why? He preaches truth and isn’t afraid to deal with the hard topics. He backs everything with scripture and brings to light incredible scriptural truths. His writings have seriously changed my life. Just read Crazy Love.
Erasing Hell by Chan and Preston Sprinkle, was written in response to a controversial book published by Rob Bell, Love Wins. While I haven’t read that, from numerous responses this book claims hell doesn’t exist.
If you don’t follow the Christian faith, this probably isn’t something you might grab and read (although by all means please do 😉 ) and the controversy of such works might not make sense or seem ridiculous, but for the believer it is something that can’t be ignored. So join the discussion, I would love to hear your thoughts (whether you agree with the book or faith).
What I appreciated about this book is that it didn’t just give their opinions as to why they were right and Bell wrong. They back up everything up with scripture, going back into the Greek translation. Since I do believe in scripture as God’s Word, I liked having something I could look further into and research. The topic of hell isn’t an easy one. As the book said, it’s a heart wrenching process.
Here are a few thought-provoking thoughts:
“A sense of urgency over the reality of hell should recharge our passion for the gospel as it did for Paul.”
“It forces me back to a sobering reality: This is not just about doctrines; it’s about destinies and if you’re reading this book and wrestling with what the Bible says about hell, you cannot let this be a mere academic exercise. You must let Jesus’ very real teaching on hell sober you up.”
“We are bound by the words of the Creator, the One who will do what is right. The One who invented justice and knows perfectly what the unbeliever deserves. God has never asked us to figure out His justice or to see if His way of doing things is morally right. He is only asked us to embrace His Word and bow the knee to tremble at His Word as Isaiah says.”
As I wrestled (and still do) with what I learned through this book, I’ll end with a quote from the book that brings me comfort: “The truth is, God is perfect and right in all that He does.”
I would love to hear what you think about it!
