I picked up this book for a couple reasons. First, I really really liked Cindy Woodsmall’s series Sisters of the Quilt, so thought I would check out another Amish style story and second, it was free on the kindle.
While this wasn’t one of my die hard favorite reads, I would definitely read other books by Beverly Lewis. I’ve heard plenty of good things and you don’t become a New York Times Bestseller without work to back it up.
As far as the story goes, The Covenant kicks off the series and follows an Amish family and starts out during World War 2. Poor Leah (one of the main characters), it always seems to hit the fan for her. Maybe because she was my favorite character, so I could be biased, but I just wanted her to catch a break.
There’s five books in the series, with each one being a continuation of the previous book. There’s lots of secrets in the character’s lives that have dramatic repercussions and I I knew I would be stressed out reading four more books like that. It could be how the Amish were in that era, but I just wanted people to actually talk about the issue before it blew up. But I liked the characters, so I did a little cliff notes style research to find out what happened in each book. I know, that should be a crime in the book world, but I just needed to know without committing to four more books.
And let me tell you, without even reading there, there is some drama for your mama that goes down. Things got cray. So if you’re ready for five books and scandal, heartbreak and everything else, then dive in!
